Don't Assume Instructions to Swallow Inhaled Steroids Are an Error
You may see medication histories that instruct patients to SWALLOW inhaled corticosteroids (Flovent HFA, etc).
This may not be a typo. Swallowing inhaled corticosteroids is a common treatment for patients with eosinophilic esophagitis.
This chronic, inflammatory "asthma of the esophagus" can cause dysphagia, food impaction, vomiting, etc. It's on more people's radar now...and often occurs with asthma, allergies, etc.
