Feel Comfortable Stopping Tasimelteon on Admission
Patients are asking about tasimelteon (Hetlioz, HET-lee-owz) for "non-24"...due to all the TV, internet, and magazine ads.
It's a melatonin-receptor agonist similar to ramelteon (Rozerem, etc). But tasimelteon is approved for non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder.
Non-24 is a circadian disorder where patients can't synchronize their internal clock to the 24-hour light-dark cycle. It occurs in over half of blind people...but is very rare in people who can see.
