More questions will come up about "biosimilars"...due to the launch of the FIRST biosimilar, filgrastim-sndz (Zarxio, zar-zee-oh).

Filgrastim-sndz is a biosimilar for Neupogen. Expect to also see biosimilars for Epogen, Humira, and Remicade in the next few years.

When evaluating for formulary addition, explain that biosimilars are highly SIMILAR to the original "brand" biologic. But each manufacturer uses their own unique process, and even different living organisms, to "make" these drugs...so it's not possible to create an exact copy.
