Be Familiar With High-Risk Situations for Drug-Induced Seizures
Questions will come up about managing patients at risk for drug-induced seizures.
Stay alert for high-risk patients...such as those with a seizure disorder, prior head trauma or stroke, or brain tumor. Also use caution in the elderly, especially those with reduced kidney or liver function.
Be aware of other risks...alcohol withdrawal, illicit drug use, hypoglycemia, electrolyte abnormalities, meningitis, acute stroke, etc.
