Coordinate Timely Sedative Agents Around RSI

Studies are highlighting the need for more timely sedative administration after rapid sequence intubation (RSI).

We know patients should receive post-intubation sedation ASAP...ideally 5 to 15 minutes after getting a short-acting induction agent (etomidate, etc) plus a long-acting neuromuscular blocking agent (NMBA).

This is because etomidate lasts around 5 to 10 minutes, but long-acting NMBAs such as rocuronium can last up to 45 to 60 minutes. Not giving timely sedation increases the likelihood of conscious paralysis.
