Cefiderocol (Fetroja, fet-ROH-jah) will be a new IV cephalosporin for multidrug-resistant (MDR) gram-negative infections.
It doesn't fall into a cephalosporin "generation." But think of it like ceftazidime or cefepime with an extended side chain.
This gives cefiderocol broad in vitro coverage for many types of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)...and resistant Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, and Stenotrophomonas.
