Limit Complications When Giving Meds Via Feeding Tubes

Questions often come up about giving meds via an enteral tube.

Dosage form. Liquids are often best...but some, such as ciprofloxacin suspension, can’t be given in tubes.

Be aware, GI side effects are possible with hyperosmolar meds (acetaminophen, potassium, etc)...or sorbitol above 10 to 15 g/day. Dilute liquid meds before giving...to prevent cramping and diarrhea.
