Feel Comfortable Holding CGRP Antagonist Meds for Migraine Prophylaxis

Fremanezumab (Ajovy, uh-JOH-vee) and galcanezumab (Emgality, em-GAL-ih-tee) will be the latest biologics to PREVENT migraine in adults.

They'll join erenumab (Aimovig)...the first calcitonin gene-related peptide blocker, or CGRP antagonist. Blocking CGRP limits vasodilation that can lead to migraine pain.

Expect to see CGRP antagonists used when first-line oral migraine preventive meds...such as beta-blockers, topiramate, or valproate...aren't enough or aren't tolerated.
