Limit Hydroxyzine (Atarax, Vistaril) Use Due to QT Prolongation
Recent warnings will highlight the risk of QT prolongation and torsades with hydroxyzine (Atarax, Vistaril, etc).
Most cases are in patients with existing QT prolongation risk factors...such as a history of arrhythmias, electrolyte imbalances, or use of other QT-prolonging drugs (amiodarone, haloperidol, methadone, etc).
Use alternatives in patients at high risk.
