Rytary (rye-TAR-ee) is a new EXTENDED-release formulation of carbidopa/levodopa for Parkinson's disease.
Think of this new carbidopa/levodopa formulation as combining the fast onset of the IMMEDIATE-release (Sinemet, etc)...with the longer duration of the SUSTAINED-release (Sinemet CR, etc).
In general, expect Rytary to be used in patients admitted with advanced Parkinson's...especially in patients who have "off" time despite taking other carbidopa/levodopa products at least 4 times daily.
