Consider Acute Pain Management Options for Patients on Buprenorphine/Naloxone

Patients taking buprenorphine/naloxone combos (Suboxone, etc) for opioid use disorder will need your help treating acute pain.

Reassure patients that opioids usually aren't needed for pain after a minor outpatient surgery, injury, dental procedure, etc.

Continue to emphasize NON-opioids...acetaminophen, NSAIDs, topicals, etc. And recommend combining meds...such as ibuprofen 400 mg WITH acetaminophen 500 to 1,000 mg every 6 hours or PRN.
