Kidney stones are becoming more common...partly due to increasing rates of diabetes, gout, obesity, and other risks.
Pain. Give scheduled NSAIDs first for renal colic. NSAIDs decrease ureteral spasms and work at least as well as opioids.
Consider IV ketorolac for faster relief of severe pain...or for patients with nausea and vomiting, which is common with stones.
