Help Patients Troubleshoot Clogged or Empty Inhalers

Reports of clogged albuterol metered-dose inhalers (MDIs) will stress the need to help patients take care of their inhalers at home.

Continue to focus on inhaler technique when educating patients prior to discharge. But prepare patients to troubleshoot other common issues if they feel their inhaler isn't working properly.

Check if it's clogged. Tell patients to look for white residue around the spray nozzle with MDIs.
