New evidence will raise questions about which corticosteroid to use for asthma exacerbations in adults.

Over 2 million ED visits per year are due to asthma...and most of these patients get systemic corticosteroids for exacerbations.

A dose of dexamethasone is sometimes used in the ED instead of 5 days of prednisone for asthma attacks in KIDS. Now you'll hear that one dose of oral dexamethasone 12 mg might work as well as 5 days of prednisone for mild to moderate asthma exacerbations in ADULTS.
