Consider More Frequent Fine-Tuning of Rheumatoid Arthritis Meds

Recent guidelines will lead to more aggressive treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to suppress symptoms and slow joint damage.

Continue to use methotrexate first as the "anchor" drug.

If this isn't enough, add one or two other traditional disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) such as sulfasalazine or hydroxychloroquine...or add a biologic DMARD (Enbrel, etc).
